Burntwood U16s were delighted and grateful on Thursday to receive an award from the Bill Longmore Foundation to support training and matchday equipment for the newly formed U16 squad. Bill Longmore was a lifelong advocate of junior sports, living in Cannock for much of his life, and the Foundation in his honour grants funds annually to recognise clubs of any sport across Staffordshire and Shropshire who reflect his commitment to sport. Burntwood’s u16s were one of five successful bids from an application of 21 this year.

The funds are being used to support matchday equipment and Gilbert training balls for the u16s, but also training equipment including new tackle bags to support the entire Mini and Junior section. An “AI Cameraman” is also being purchased for use in the club, allowing M&J matches to be recorded and reviewed to support player and team development, and individuals to be recorded to support their studies in GCSE PE and BTEC Sport.
