We are delighted to confirm that Burntwood Rugby Club has been successfully awarded funding through Lichfield District Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
This funding programme is designed to strengthen local sports clubs and enhance community spaces across the district — an objective that closely aligns with our mission and long-term vision.
With more than 300 active players aged 7 through to 40+, Burntwood Rugby Club is proud to be a genuine community club, delivering inclusive Rugby Union opportunities to the local population and beyond. The continued growth of our membership is a tremendous success story; however, it also means our pitches and facilities are under sustained pressure. Despite consistent maintenance and the dedication of our volunteers, this investment is essential to ensure we can meet demand safely and sustainably for years to come.
Chairperson Sally Perrins commented:
“It is with great pleasure that I announce we have been successful in our funding application to Lichfield District Council’s CIL programme. The council has awarded us £105,000 for pitch maintenance and enhancement. This will be supported by £5,000 in match funding from our patrons and a £10,000 club contribution from SFRU, which will go directly towards the purchase of a tractor and associated equipment.
We extend our sincere thanks to LDC for approving these much needed improvements, to our patrons for their continued support and generosity, and to Adam Blackford and Lottie Bozon for their invaluable guidance throughout the application process.
This funding will have a significant and positive impact on all our members. It will help us continue growing as a club by supporting player development through access to high quality training and playing surfaces. It will also enable us to retain our existing members and, we hope, attract new players from the local community to this fantastic sport for all.”
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Lichfield District Council and Burntwood Town Council for their commitment to supporting local sport and community provision. Their backing plays a vital role in helping clubs like ours thrive.
We look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses and to delivering lasting improvements for our players, members and supporters.
