It is with great sadness that Burntwood Rugby Club learn the sudden death of former mini & junior Chairman, junior fixture secretary, referee, club volunteer and club member Simon Barker.

Simon was a much loved member of Burntwood Rugby Club, and indeed the entire Midland's rugby community which he served as a referee for many years. As well as holding several Staffs county positions, he was an active member at BRUFC, only last Saturday refereeing the 3rd XV match. When not refereeing, he was a constant presence home and away watching his son Aidan represent the senior teams.

The whole of BRUFC's members, patrons, players, supporters and staff would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Simons wife Cath, daughter Heather, son and current senior player Aidan and entire family.

Club members have set up a GoFundMe page to support floral tributes on behalf of the club for Simon, and any donation is greatly appreciated.

Both 1st XV and 3rd XV matches this weekend will observe a minute silence for Simon this weekend, and graciously, this will also be observed by all rugby matches across the midlands area.

Funeral details will be released when known with family discretion.
