Nine tries from nine different scorers for Burntwood.

Burntwood ended a three match losing streak by running in nine tries from nine different scorers at home to basement side Telford Hornets to win 58-8. In the process, they lifted themselves up to sixth in the league table with three rounds of games left.
Jack Johnson’s side were ahead as early as the second minute. After re-gathering their own kick off, they won a penalty which was kicked to the clubhouse corner. Josh Canning’s one-handed take at the line out set his fellow forwards driving infield and then back left for Alfie Dewsbury to score an unconverted try.
After the hosts had repelled the first threat from the visitors, they moved downfield and from the next penalty award, Kian Carter kicked for goal from the 22 to make it 8-0 on 11 minutes.
Telford enjoyed the better of the play up to the 20 minute mark but a combination of solid home defence and basic handling errors saw the visitors go unrewarded.
Ben Holt’s deep clearance kick provided the field position for the next score on 25 minutes. From a set scrum, Billy Fisher made good ground and when the ball was recycled, Holt cut inside to the line for the try, converted by Carter.
Five minutes later and it was 22-0. Line out possession was moved infield through the phases for Neil Holden to show his strength in driving his way through defenders to the line. Carter added the conversion.
The bonus point try arrived on 35 minutes. Two attempted clearance kicks by the visitors were charged down and from the second by Dewsbury, Alfie Broadhurst was able to complete the easy task of touching down. Carter’s conversion attempt was missed when the ball toppled of the kicking tee to leave the half time score at 27-0.
Telford got off the mark early in the second period with a penalty goal which provoked an instant response from Burntwood. Fisher went on an electrifying run from 22 to 22 with Tom Shorrock providing support. Possession was recycled for Luke Rookyard to make it 32-3 with an unconverted try.
The hosts began to cut loose with Carter making good ground from deep. Dewsbury went close in the right corner before Carter kicked to the left corner for Aidan Barker to collect and dot down. Carter converted in fine style into the crosswind.
On the hour mark, Telford lost a centre to a yellow card for an illegal tackle and Burntwood were quick to make them pay. The line out option was taken and after play crabbed infield, Jack Butcher stretched over the line near the posts and Carter converted the score.
The home side passed the half century on 68 minutes. Alex Smail was prominent in driving play upfield which led to Fisher being freed for a try by the posts which Carter converted.
Good interplay by the backs saw Barker go close to his second before Canning collected the goal line drop out to launch the next attack. Tom Pockson made ground down his wing and when play reached the Telford line, Shorrock stretched over for an unconverted try in the right corner.
A rare Burntwood error at the restart presented the visitors with a scrum on the home 22. This was compounded by conceding a free kick which Telford tapped and went over for a try in the clubhouse corner.
That was the end of the scoring although there was time for Holden to earn himself a yellow card for one protest too many. When Telford looked to add a second try in the closing minutes, Canning stripped possession at the crucial moment and then Shorrock repeated the feat in the next attack to earn a penalty which was tapped and kicked dead to end the game.
This Saturday, Burntwood are at home again to face Aston Old Edwardians. The 2nds are without a fixture whilst the 3rds are scheduled to welcome Rugeley 2nds to the RCI Sportsway.
